Homeschool Happenings
St. Albert’s homeschooling group continues to meet every Wednesday at the West Chester Library Community Room. So far, we have over 30 students involved and we are expecting our numbers to increase. We are still in the formative stages of this worthwhile endeavor to engage our children in their Catholic Faith, and we welcome suggestions about how we can improve our program. Here is what we have planned so far.
Father Ramolla will instruct the older students in their catechism, while Mr. Johns will introduce them to logic, apologetics, and rhetoric. Additionally, the boys will be given lessons by Father Ramolla on how to serve Mass.
The younger students will be separated into three groups for Catechism, Lives of the Saints, and Bible History according to their age and ability. Father Ramolla will meet with the younger students at the end of their lessons. He will review what they have learned in their Catechism lessons and add spiritual talks. Rev. Mr. Hall will also be on hand to teach church music to the children; they will begin by learning a repertoire of good hymns in English and Latin that they can then sing at Sunday Mass. The younger students will also participate in a Catholic story hour with puppet shows and crafts.
The room we have reserved is
fully equipped with a stage area and presentation equipment.
We hope to make use of these
items to allow the children to give presentations, plays, and
recitals. We also have
access to a kitchen. Several
of the mothers have specialized skills including arithmetic
expertise, languages, writing experience, and cooking.
We hope to add some of these
to our program as well.
The picture above shows real-life brother and sister Timothy and
Emma Kunkel, in their roles as St. Benedict and his sister St.
Scholastica, in a scene from the recent makeshift stage-play
produced by the children in honor of the feastday of St. Scholastica.
Other boys and girls played various parts ranging from bandits to
thunderclouds.
The St. Albert’s homeschooling group welcomes newcomers!
